Bonded Cellular & LiveU Streaming

Several cellular modems, different carriers, aggregated into one uplink that keeps working when any single connection drops.

bonded cellular streaming — live production

New York Live Streaming

Bonded cellular streaming aggregates several cellular connections — usually across different carriers — into a single uplink. Video is split across all the connections and reassembled in the cloud, so the stream keeps running at full quality even if one or two modems lose signal. It is the standard answer for locations where wired internet is unavailable, unreliable, or won't be ready in time: outdoor events, moving broadcasts, temporary venues, and any site where the venue's network can't be trusted. New York Live Streaming uses bonded cellular as a primary uplink in the field and as an automatic backup path alongside venue Ethernet for high-stakes indoor events.

When bonded cellular is the right call

  • Outdoor events — festivals, ceremonies, sports fields, parades
  • Golf courses and large campuses where cameras move across long distances
  • Cemeteries and graveside services with no infrastructure
  • Temporary stages and pop-up venues where internet isn't installed
  • News-style and mobile broadcasts
  • As a backup path for a critical indoor stream on venue Ethernet

Where it struggles, and what we do about it

Bonded cellular depends on cell coverage. In a packed stadium, a dense downtown canyon, or a rural dead zone, all carriers can be congested or weak at once. We check coverage for every carrier at the exact location during the site survey, add directional antennas where needed, and pair cellular with Starlink or a wired path when a single medium isn't safe enough.

“LiveU” is one widely used brand of bonding hardware and the term is often used generically. We are not an official LiveU partner. The specific bonding units used on your event are confirmed during planning.

Capabilities we plan and integrate

  • Bonded cellular uplink

Multiple cellular modems across different carriers aggregated into one resilient uplink for locations without dependable wired internet.

  • Backup / redundant streams

A second encoder and network path configured as an automatic or manual failover for the primary stream.

  • Stream monitoring

Continuous monitoring of encoder health, bitrate, dropped frames, and destination status throughout the broadcast.

  • Starlink / satellite connectivity

Low-earth-orbit satellite internet used as a primary or backup path at remote and outdoor locations with a clear view of the sky.

Capabilities are scoped and confirmed per event. We do not claim certifications or assert a feature that has not been validated for your setup.

Frequently asked questions

Will a bonded cellular stream look as good as a wired one?
In areas with reasonable coverage, yes — full HD at broadcast bitrates is normal. The system trades a small, fixed delay (a few seconds) for stability. Where coverage is marginal, it protects quality by lowering bitrate briefly rather than dropping the stream.
How many carriers do you bond?
Typically three or more SIMs across the major carriers, sometimes plus the venue's Wi-Fi as an extra path. The point is diversity — if one network is congested, the others carry the load.
Can bonded cellular be a backup instead of the main connection?
Yes, and that's a common setup for important indoor events: venue Ethernet is primary, a bonded unit runs hot as an automatic failover, and local recording backs up both.
Does a golf course or park have enough signal for this?
Often yes, but it must be verified on site, not assumed. We test each carrier at the actual camera positions during the site survey and bring Starlink as an alternative if cellular isn't dependable there.
